Made in response to the brief 'Create 10 6x6" pieces per day, based on the news of the day. Present your 50 pieces thoughtfully, in order.'
I chose 1 news story per day that resonated with me to create multiple pieces around. For each story I created some graphic design work, and threw a pot. Whilst throwing the pot I kept my eyes closed throughout, focusing on the news story in mind. I then quickly documented my feelings whilst creating the pot, photographed and drew the pot, then destroyed it - recycling it into the next news story to represent the cyclical, messy nature of news.
When making this work I felt stuck for quite some time, and created other pieces prior to my final idea that just did not resonate with me. Discussion with other artists and friends led me to thinking of this idea which I was very grateful for. Moving forwards I would not spend time forcing myself to continue with a project that isn't working well for me, and instead would take some time to bounce ideas off other people, seek further inspiration, and look outside the box for something that fits my individual style more.
