Made in response to the brief 'Create a series of small, instinctive pieces of work based on fleeting thoughts or moments in your daily routine.'
These images are based on a series of photographs I took that centre around an anchoring point in my daily routine - driving. Whilst in my ven I regularly find myself exploring my steering wheel with my hands in a familiar ritual. The curves and shapes of the wheel, and the conversation and relationship between the wheel and my hands is a beautiful and deeply sensual exploration buried in the everyday.
When making this work I felt struck by how I enjoyed the simplicity and impact of quite a simple drawing, and the single colour used within it. I initially made 1 drawing from the photographs, but took on board a suggestion to make a series for bigger impact. I learnt that quick, instinctive works can carry significant presence and that I can enjoy working outside of colour. In future I would consider more the impact of the completed work(s) and what I want that to look like.
When making this work an artist I looked at was Robert Rauschenberg for his bold use of lines.
